On returning to his native city of Florence, Foggini entered the service of the Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo III de’ Medici, as his court sculptor and architect. As well as for his lifelike marble portraits, Foggini was especially praised for his small bronzes on mythological and allegorical subjects. He was also a prolific designer, and he trained a younger generation of sculptors and architects. The artist was regarded as the embodiment of the Roman Baroque in Florence. Foggini spectacular bronze group Prometheus Chained by Mercury is a very successful example of this dynamic style.
