When he died she took over his position as director of the school. Strick was an exceptionally gifted calligrapher – with her smooth strokes and graceful loops she turned calligraphy into a true art form. In 1606 she published her first sample book, containing examples of her calligraphy, in several languages. By good fortune, her husband Hans was an engraver. He transferred Strick’s calligraphic work to copper plates, making it possible to print her books in large quantities. Schools used Strick’s sample books for many years to teach students the art of calligraphy.
