Adam van Vianen (I)

It is believed Van Vianen completed his apprenticeship around 1590, because this was when he joined a smith’s guild and started working independently. His fantastical objects tell stories in auricular forms and ornamentations. In 1614, the guild in Amsterdam commissioned Van Vianen to make a jug in memory of his own brother Paulus, who had recently died and was himself a silversmith. The jug was a tribute to his brother’s work and creativity. Ornamentation took the leading role for the first time on this jug.
